Camp Golden Years in Tehachapi was a joint project that aimed to help senior dogs to find new homes. When Homer was rescued, his body was tied firmly by a cord. Unfortunately, he didn’t know how to behave like a pet anymore because he became wild to survive.
Joel Rockey, one of the volunteers, admitted that the Camp Golden Years couldn’t provide all Homer’s needs. He decided to ask for assistance from Rocky Kanaka who was a dog lover and a volunteer. Rocky used to promote rescue dogs from shelters; however, he had a financial crisis after the death of one of his family members.
Rocky was convinced to help Homer; he believed that it would help his family to heal from a tragedy that they just encountered. Unfortunately, Homer lost trust in people due to his painful experiences; however, Rocky was still eager to help him. Rocky and Kelly decided to foster him although they just fostered a rescue dog named Blossom from a hoarding house. Aside from Blossom, they had a senior dog named Boxer who was friendly to all dogs he met.
When Homer was finally transferred to Rocky’s home, he was very afraid to get out from his kennel. He wasn’t familiar with many things too; in fact, he didn’t even know how to use the stairs. Homer also required surgery for his broken bone, so Rocky and Kelly provided all his medical needs. Despite his tough recovery, they are very happy in his progress every day.
Homer showed some signs of recovery although he was still afraid of many things in his surroundings. They believed that Homer would fully recover soon from all the pains caused by his tragic experience because he was a sweet and loving dog in nature. Now, he eats some treats from Rocky’s hands; in fact, he even grabs the treats’ bag when no one is around.
