By default, most street dogs are warry of people and actively avoid them. However, from time to time, some dogs are eager to meet a new person. Most of them are puppies who are still learning and exploring their surroundings.
A puppy in South Africa was left alone in the streets. Apparently, this dog had been wandering for a week. The dog had nothing but a piece of breed in its mouth when rescuers found him.
The puppy received medical treatment and food at the veterinarian. Then it was sent to foster care for about a week. After that, a woman named Freya adopted the puppy and gave him the name Gunnar.
What Freya liked about Gunnar was his unyielding determination to survive. For such a small dog, he had a strong fighting spirit. The woman knew that this dog would grow up to be a great companion and friend.
After three years, Gunnar grew up as a beautiful and healthy dog. Nowadays, he’s physically active and would often fetch balls or stones wherever he goes. In particular, this dog loves finding random stones and presenting them to Freya.
During the global pandemic, Freya started fostering more dogs. She figured that it would be nice for Gunnar to meet new friends. Eventually, Gunnar got used to having other dogs in the house. He became a mentor to every new dog that would set foot in his home.
Gunnar is just as happy and energetic as when he was a puppy. He’s the same dog but with more access to a secure and stable life. His owners wouldn’t have it any other way.
Gunnar was rescued by an organization called Sidewalks Rescue. They are one of the many organizations that keep dogs off the streets and get them into good homes. Find out more about them and Gunnar by checking out the video below.
