All sorts of dogs compete to be America’s Top Dog. If they’re not a police dog, they are often categorized as underdogs. For this particular episode, there’s an underdog that comes from an interesting breed.
Megan Devoe has three years of dog training experience. She has brought her dog Macie, a Catahoula Leopard Dog, to take on a tough challenge. Macie has competed in a lot of sports in the past, so she has enough experience to challenge the Canine Combine.
Megan and Macie are off to set a record. They were taking things slow on the first obstacle. Macie was able to grab the balls in the second part of the course. She was also very prolific at the high-jumps.
When Macie got to the rope bridge, she crossed it like it was the easiest thing in the world. Since Macie has experience in dock diving, it’s no surprise that she was quick to swim on the water. They finished with a total time of 2 minutes and 39 seconds.
The second round of the competition is called the boneyard. Macie needs to find five items in under 4 minutes. Since Macie trains with human scent, that’s what the things she’s looking for smells like.
Megan is looking for signs that Macie tries to give her. They get the first item correctly in under a minute. They took a lot of time in the second room without any progress, so they moved to the next room.
Team Macie failed to all of the items needed. Five minutes were up, and all they found was one. Macie wasn’t keen on detection work, so it’s not surprising they got eliminated in this round.
Megan and Macie found the experience to be great. They got to experience new things and compete in the big stage. For Megan, Macie is still a top dog.
