A stray two-year-old Labrador named Bailey has once been described as untrainable and even as far as labeled as unsociable, rude, and stubborn. His difficult character forced The Dogs Trust, a rehoming center located in Loughborough, to put out a plea asking if anyone could take him home. They were definitely worried that there would be really no hope for Bailey.
Thankfully, Essex Fire Service dog handler Graham Currie took the risk and rescued Bailey. And soon enough, he proved everyone wrong that he was untrainable and wouldn’t amount to anything else. In fact, he even exceeded expectations.
As the story went, Graham was already looking out for a new dog to train when he first heard about Bailey. He offered to take the stray Labrador on a six-week trial after he confirmed that Bailey had the drive and had no issues of aggression with other dogs. Bailey was then tested by the Essex County Fire and Rescue Service and in just a few days, he was recruited into the team.
As it turned out, Bailey was actually trainable and he was one of the most natural search dogs that Graham has ever seen. Bailey was never fazed by anything and he feared nothing. In fact, he was doing such an amazing job as a search dog that he could be on duty as soon as possible. Normally, it could take years to train a search dog but Bailey proved that he was different.
Once he is completely trained, Bailey would be joining 20 other dogs in helping find and rescue trapped or lost people in the United Kingdom. Aside from that, he would also be attending to disaster zones all across the globe. But while Bailey is waiting for that, he is enjoying his life in Graham Currie’s home with his loving family who loves him so much.
