A dog owner from the town of Apple Valley in California made the very difficult decision to surrender his beloved German Shepherd. He is transferring to a new home, and his new job won’t allow him to look after the dog well.
With a heavy heart, he took Ginger to the Apple Valley Animal Center and asked them to please find her a good home. He specifically asked that the dog be given to a family that will provide her stability, safety, and love.
It wasn’t just the dog owner that didn’t like the situation. Ginger, apparently didn’t want to be left behind. That very same night, she made her great escape.
Possible burglary
Hours after the shelter closed down, the staff was surprised to learn that the alarms in the facility went off. One animal control officer headed to the site to check what was going on. Their first suspicion was that someone broke into the shelter.
The officer went inside and investigated. The place was disheveled, but he found no one. He decided to check the surveillance videos. That’s when he saw what actually occurred.
Multiple doors
The security footage showed that Ginger went through several doors throughout the shelter and eventually made it out of the building. The smart dog learned on the fly how to open the doors. This impressed the shelter staff, but they now had to deal with a missing dog. Fortunately, Ginger was found the next day.
The shelter shared the story online and even posted some photos and videos of her escape. She became viral almost immediately. Her rise to fame is what helped her get adopted.
Ginger is now living with a loving family, and she even has a new dog to play with. The shelter made sure that the family that got her would provide her with all the love and care that she needs.
