The beauty of a mom protecting her kids has always been a subject in different works of literature. But this motherly affection is not only seen in humans — even dogs also display such a filial dedication!
Snowbelle’s case is one fine example of this. She was found together with her six tiny pups in the snow close to Red Lake in Minnesota. In the midst of the winter season, this mother dog made sure that her kids receive the warmth they needed and eventually made it through the night.
Here is their awe-inspiring story:
Mothers will always give their all
According to an organization called Rosie’s Rescue, a community member saw the puppies and their mother. At the time, it appeared that the snow surrounding the dogs had already melted because of their body heat. This was a strong testament to how mothers would give their all for the sake of their children.
Another community member who assisted the shelter’s founder decided to bring the dog, who they called Snowbelle, and her puppies to the shelter. Karen Good, the shelter’s founder, set up the mama dog in the kennel with blankets and straw. It was then that Karen found out that Snowbelle had already run out of milk.
The rescuers were quite shocked to find that the litter of puppies was just three weeks old. However, they were amazed by how they stuck together and weathered the harsh cold.
Nurturing the dogs back to health
The real work, however, just began. The team started the arduous work of bringing back the dogs to health. First, the shelter had to take care of the young pups by giving them a puppy gruel, which was a mix of paté-like food and puppy formula. Snowbelle, on the other hand, had to be taken care of, so she would be able to produce milk again.
But the biggest work that they had done was to get Snowbelle to trust people. And it seemed that she would end up being able to do that through the kindness of the people around her.
