Hope For Paws, an organization with a mission to save stray animals, usually do rescues within their home city of Los Angeles, California. They, however, do not limit their assistance to this area. Sometimes, the rescuers go great distances to get an animal in need to safety.
For instance, Eldad and JoAnn, lead rescuers of the group, responded to a call from Claudia Briseno, a Good Samaritan who lived in Central California. She asked the rescuers to come and save a homeless Chow Chow. Despite the distance, they didn’t hesitate to help and immediately sprung into action instead.
The rescue partners drove almost 300 miles to meet Claudia. When they arrived, they found her with 2 dogs. They saw the Chow Chow meandering nearby, but Claudia also held a smaller gray dog on a leash.
Eldad and JoAnn learned that the gray dog, named Whiskey, wasn’t Claudia’s. The pup’s owner died and the son didn’t want the dog. Fearing it would need up in a shelter, or worse, left homeless, Claudia took it in.
Eldad took note of Whiskey’s situation but focused on securing the Chow Chow first. Knowing that Claudia’s efforts in building trust with the dog were all in vain, he knew he took his steps carefully. Additionally, he asked JoAnn, Claudia, and Whiskey for help.
JoAnn tried to earn the Chow Chow’s trust by giving it food. Claudia and Whiskey also helped make the big dog feel safe. The presence of strangers, however, made the pooch skittish so it started walking away.
Eldad thought a trap was best to secure the stray dog. He set up one with JoAnn’s help, and to make the Chow Chow feel more comfortable, they both left. Later on, they tasked Claudia and Whiskey to watch over the big dog until it took the bait.
Hungry, the Chow Chow eventually took the bait and successfully got in the crate. Eldad also offered to take Whiskey from Claudia, since she mentioned she’d be unable to look after the small pup. With the rescue succeeding, Eldad and JoAnn drove back to LA with Whiskey and the Chow Chow they named Gogo and offered them fresh starts.
