For most of his life, Graham Whatmough lived in St. Thomas, Ontario, and worked in an oilfield. But he eventually grew tired of his daily grind and moved to Fort Mcmurray in Alberta to pursue his passion – nature photography and videography. For the next several years, he built a successful business as a freelancer.
Graham spends most of his days exploring the woods near their community. He has covered several trails, documenting everything around him. Then one day, he came across a white dog, sitting near a fallen tree.
Broken legs
At first, Graham thought he saw a small deer or a coyote. He didn’t really expect a dog to be there. The tree provided a good cover, and he couldn’t make the distinction. But when the concerned photographer got closer, he saw the creature had a pink collar and confirmed that she was indeed a dog.
Graham, a dog owner himself, tried to approach the pooch to see if she needed help. But the white pup bared her teeth, warning the human not to get close. The kind man didn’t want to leave the dog behind though.
He wanted to gain her trust, so he gave her some of the berries he picked along the way. The pooch must have been very hungry as she quickly ate them all. Graham then gave her his water, and this finally did the trick. The dog allowed him to touch her.
When he tried to get the pup to stand, he noticed that her rear legs couldn’t stretch out. They were injured.
Help from everywhere
Graham brought the poor pooch to a vet where she received treatment. It turned out that her broken legs were not healing properly, and she would need costly surgery. The other options were to amputate the leg or give him up to the local shelter. The last choice was the worst, she could be euthanized.
The photographer went online and shared the pup’s story. l”ts of people felt bad for the dog, now named Willow. Donations started pouring in, and Graham was able to gather enough money for the operation. Soon, the dog was healing and was allowed to go home. She fully recovered after several weeks and started joining his new dad on his nature hikes.
