The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) helped a dog named Autumn end an eventful year with some great news. The animal welfare group helped rescue the pit bull from a terrible situation.
When Autumn first arrived at the ASPCA shelter in New York City, she had a gunshot wound on her neck and face. Thankfully, luck was on the pup’s side. The bullet missed her arteries and did not cause any irreparable damage. In her statement, ASPCA medical supervisor Aubrey Crowley said that Autumn is a medical miracle.
Despite surviving the gunshot, the experience left Autumn with trauma. She was wary and afraid of humans the first time she arrived at the shelter. She also had difficulty breathing because of her injury.
For a week, Autumn stayed at an animal hospital where she received intense medical treatment to help her recover from breathing difficulties and her other injuries. She also spent weeks with behavior experts from ASPCA to help her develop a positive association with people.
Autumn impressed everyone at the ASPCA when she made a full recovery and started to let her personality shine through. Following her improvement, the organization placed the dog for adoption. Not long after, Jolynn Wojcik and her husband Jason took her home. They recently lost a beloved pet and were looking for a companion for their dog Corona.
Autumn is now called Nola. And she is being spoiled rotten by her new owners. It only took her a few days to acclimate to her new home. She is now comfortable with her newfound family. She also loves playing with Corona.
Wojcik said it is an absolute pleasure to have Nola in their home. She went on to say that the dog is full of love, and they return it by showering her with kisses.
