One man’s life changed to a full 360-degree turn after meeting a four-legged friend from a dumpster area. He now takes the lifetime mission upon himself to take care of abandoned and stray animals as much as he can.
Meet the ultimate canine lover Theoklitos Proestakis from the Greek island of Crete. Six years ago, something happened that changed his destiny forever.
Takis relayed that he met an injured dog in a dumpster area, who made him feel responsible for his condition. He felt moved by the pup’s health that it made him bring it to the vet to receive immediate medical care. He wanted to keep the dog; however, he did not have much space at home for a pet.
He left the pup back on the place where he found him, but he made sure to come by every day to feed him and give him medications. Amazingly, it seemed that the news spread to the other dogs in the area as well. More dogs began coming in daily, and Takis soon found himself overwhelmed.
Proestakis recounted that he got himself, 50 new friends, that day. After a few days of visiting the area, he now shares the time with about 70 dogs give or take.
He did the process of feeding and providing medical care to the animals for nearly a year. Then unexpected complaints from the people living nearby started to creep into the scene. They even thought of poisoning Tak’s friends out of frustration.
Taki pleaded the people to give him 30 days and soon he was able to purchase 500 square meters of space for his dogs. He called it Taki’s Shelter and not long, it grew again to a whopping 33,000 square meters as the dog population grew with it.
Taki posted regularly his journey on his Facebook page which gathered over 279,000 likes and thousands of views. He uses his popularity for receiving charities all over the world in funding his growing shelter project.
