Magnolia, a senior Shih Tzu, was in bad shape when she arrived at Lancaster SPCA Animal Shelter in South Carolina. It is an animal rescue organization committed to helping wounded, ill, unloved, mistreated, and neglected animals.
It is unclear what type of mistreatment or cruelty she experienced before she arrived. It also concerns the staff that the dog’s fur was extremely matted. Magnolia’s condition stunned the workers at the Lancaster SPCA, yet they provided their support and care anyhow.
The dog is about nine or ten years old when she was brought to the institution. The staff realized that her previous owner neglected her grooming. They assumed she had been disregarded for years, if not her whole life, by heartless owners. She was stuck under her fur, which the crew instantly comprehended when they saw her.
It creates an unpleasant feeling for Magnolia to not have her fur brushed and grow matted. She was also coated in the stench of her urine, which she couldn’t get rid of.
But there is one really great piece of news. Magnolia’s path to recovery began when Diana B. Knight, president of the Lancaster SPCA, offered to foster her. The staff trimmed Magnolia’s hair, and she looked like a brand-new dog.
The dog was not only relieved to be able to run and play again following the shaving, but she also expressed a strong yearning for affection. She insisted on being patted and held all the time as if to compensate for her lonely childhood. She enjoys car trips, toys, walks, and being pampered by those who visit her.
It took Magnolia a while before she was adopted. While waiting, she spent her time with other Shih Tzus who were also being fostered. Luckily, she has been adopted by her permanent family in early January.
