Eve, a poodle mix, may have two broken legs, but these can’t stop her from giving her motherly love. And it doesn’t matter if her babies aren’t her own puppies, she loves them all the same.
Eve’s predicament
On one fateful night in September 2018, Eve met an accident. She was hit by a speeding car that broke two of her front legs. She was rushed into an animal shelter, but the staff found out something interesting about her: Eve was lactating.
Believing that Eve had puppies, the staff scoured the location for her litter, but none of the puppies turned up. Being separated from her babies made Eve sad and depressed, on top of the pain that she’s feeling from her injuries.
Poodle mothering kittens
Eve was rushed to Midland Animal Shelter where her injured legs were treated. The shelter staff sensed that Eve was unhappy with the way her life was going on and wanted to cheer her up.
The staff thought that since Eve was lactating, it might help if she could have someone to divert her motherly love to. There are two litters of kittens at the shelter at that time, and the staff figured that it is best for both the mama dog and motherless kittens to be together.
So, the staff made the introductions between the injured dog and orphaned kittens. Eve immediately fell in love with the furry little felines, and willingly allowed them to nurse. It seems that Eve was even enjoying her role as mom to her new babies.
Meanwhile, a non-profit organization called Cassie’s Place heard of Eve’s story and volunteered to shoulder Eve’s medical expenses. But as soon as they learned that Eve has made a family with her baby kittens, Cassie’s Place decided to take the kittens in as well!
Eve went through surgeries and treatment. She’s been brave through it all and recovered quickly. She can’t wait to be well enough so she can reunite with her babies and shower them with love.
Indeed, a mother’s love knows no bounds. Watch Eve’s heartwarming story on the video below.
