A woman named Sarah Grant was in her Florida home’s front yard preparing for Hurricane Irma when she noticed a dog from across the street. The animal cautiously approached her after being summoned, even checking both directions before crossing the road.
The dog reeked and had matted fur. She was also thin as a rail.
When Grant brought out some food, she gobbled it voraciously. She consumed three bowls of food and two bowls of water without taking a breath. And each time Grant returned to the house, the dog excitedly anticipated her arrival.
Grant stated that she was startled when the dog’s behavior changed after being fed. She became possessive and resented it when she stopped touching her. Grant, unable to leave her outside, kept the door open for the dog to enter. The animal initially hesitated but eventually entered.
Grant then attempted to bathe the dog. It was difficult since the fearful dog hated to be touched. But Grant really persisted, and after four long hours of attempting to clean her up, she was ultimately successful.
Even though she was falling in love, Grant knew she had to find the dog’s owner. She brought her to the veterinarian and had her scanned for a microchip, but none was detected. After returning home, she used social media to locate them effectively.
The previous owners explained that they lost their apartment, relocated, and were unable to take the dog with them. They handed her to a couple whom they believed would take care of her. In the end, the couple let her out of their vehicle and left her right on the side of the road.
Hearing the story devastated Grant. Having developed an attachment to the dog, though, she decided to keep her. She is now known as Amaterasu, or Amy, and is settling in with her new family. Grant further stated that she is grateful to the “doggo gods” for providing her with a source of joy.
