The UEFA Euros soccer tournament was recently concluded and Italy was crowned champions of Europe. But even though it was the Italians that won the silverware, it was England’s soccer team that won the hearts of many adoring fans around the world.
The English were the heavy favorites to win the competition and everyone was rooting for them. Apparently, even dogs have been rooting for jolly old England, and the viral video below that was taken back in 2018 proves this claim. The funny doggo in the clip is Scooby Doo. He was only nine years old when this cute scene was recorded.
The pooch was watching the game with his owners, Roger and Sanny Vernon. On the screen, we can see that England’s captain, Harry Kane, was about to take a penalty kick against Panama. A penalty kick is when a player goes one on one with the goalkeeper of the opposing team.
A penalty kick can be a nervous moment for the players and their fans. Perhaps that is why Scooby Doo couldn’t look at the TV screen when Kane was about to take the shot. What makes this scene hilarious is the fact that many fans worldwide do the exact same thing whenever their team takes a penalty kick.
After the shot went in, the Vernons couldn’t help but scream as they celebrated the goal, Scooby Doo also celebrated as if he understood what was happening! The fanatic furball barked at the TV repeatedly and he jumped up and down just like what the fans in the stadium are doing.
A few moments after Scooby Doo celebrated the goal, his sister doggo was also seen in the shot barking at the TV. It looked like she also wanted in on the excitement!
But kidding aside, Scooby Doo definitely does not understand soccer. He just got excited because his humans were screaming. Nevertheless, Scooby Doo’s reaction was just too funny to ignore!
