Camilo Ramírez, the lead rescuer of the animal shelter and rescue organization Acción Animal Ecuador, received news that a family of dogs was abandoned outside a small village. Knowing the lives of the poor animals were in danger, he wasted no second and responded right away.
When he got to the community, he asked around in an attempt to understand why the dogs were dumped on the street.
The rescuer spoke with a few people but before he even heard what they had to say, he already knew why the dogs’ owners dumped them. Apparently, the momma dog gave birth to six disabled puppies. They weren’t normal so they were unwanted.
The puppies, despite their disability, were so charming and playful. They were missing their front paws but they were healthy otherwise. They weren’t so lucky to end up on the streets but they were so fortunate to have their momma dog by their side all the time.
Exhausted, starved, and frail, the momma dog needed some help, too. But no matter how bad her condition was, she continued to fulfill her job. She nursed her babies, groomed them, played with them, and protected them from all harm.
It wasn’t the momma’s fault that her puppies were born crippled. In fact, the neighbors believed her babies ended up the way they did because she did not receive proper care and nourishment when she was pregnant. Her owners were to blame and yet, they despised her and her puppies.
To put the dog’s misery to an end, the rescuers loaded the furry family into his car and drove them straight to the shelter. He made sure to have their resident vet check on them and he was glad to know that none of them was ill. The mom needed rest and the puppies required fluids but they were generally in good health.
Within a few days, the momma dog started to feel better. She gained back her strength so she continued doing what she does best – taking care of her puppies. At the same time, she began thanking Camilo for everything he did for her family.
The momma dog and her six puppies are doing great under the care of their rescuer. Every day, they progress. It will be a couple days more, or even weeks, but for sure, they will end up in their new forever homes.
