Many rescued dogs have problems that need to be addressed. A good number of them suffer from skin conditions, while others are emaciated. It was uncommon for The REAL Bark, a local shelter in Mexico, to encounter a stray dog that was in good health.
A woman walking through a town in Mexico saw Thor, a disabled Pitbull, dragging one-half of his body through the street. The dog was badly malnourished and barked to ask for food from passersby.
The woman believed that the dog was dying, so she chose not to contact animal rescue. A few hours later, she returned to the same location and observed Thor struggling. This time, she looked for help and was able to get in contact with the shelter.
The shelter staff brought Thor to many veterinarians, but they all recommended euthanasia. None of the veterinarians believed that the dog could walk again.
The shelter volunteers observed that Thor had a strong fighting spirit. He was always on his feet despite the fact that the rear part of his body was immobile. It was also a good thing that nobody at the shelter was willing to abandon him.
Thor spent the first nine months of his rehabilitation restoring his health. When he began to appear better, Thor’s trainers focused on restoring his leg strength.
Every day, the trainers massaged Thor’s legs. Everyone was startled to discover that Thor had regained tail function one morning.
Then, Thor suddenly stood up and began walking. He was slightly off-balance, but nothing could stop him.
After observing Thor’s improvement, the shelter decided that he was ready for adoption.
Lea, a woman who had been following Thor’s story online, visited the shelter and fell in love with him upon first meeting him. She brought the dog to her home.
Lea loves Thor as he is, and she is determined to provide him with the life he deserves.
