Kelly McDuffie and Danny Hartung saw a lost golden retriever dog when they went on a hike together. The lost dog’s photos were hung all over the Shenandoah National Park, so they became familiar with him. He was lost for almost 11 days already, and all staff members of the park searched for him in the forest. Unfortunately, they didn’t find him anywhere. They almost lost hope when they still did not find Max after two weeks.
One day, Kelly and Danny decided to go to a forest trail. When they were almost halfway through, Kelly decided to stop for a while to hear the sound of a waterfall. They saw some blackberries on the ground, so they followed and picked them up one by one. Surprisingly, Danny spotted Max, who was hiding anxiously in some bushes.
Although Kelly was quite frightened of dogs, she was able to approach and pet Max. She gave him lots of water and food to win his trust until she was able to take him out of the bushes. Unfortunately, he couldn’t walk because he was too weak to stand straight.
Kelly and Danny were delighted when they were able to find the lost dog. They still had two miles to finish the trail, so they decided to walk a short distance to call for help. They called some park rangers immediately; therefore, their contact numbers were given to Max’s owners. Max’s owners called them on the phone to say thank you.
The park rangers carried Max using a stretcher, and they brought him back to the park where his loving family was. Most people in the park were happy for his touching reunion with his family since they knew about his misadventure. Finally, he was brought back to his forever family after two weeks of being separated. Now, he gains weight gradually as he enjoys his second chance to live in a warm and comfortable home away from an uncertain life in the wild. Watch the video below:
