If you are a dog lover, you have probably heard the story of Hachiko. Hachiko became famous for waiting in the same train station where he had regularly waited for his owner while the latter was still alive. This lasted for nine years after the man’s death.
This sheer devotion has turned Hachiko into some kind of a canine hero. In fact, a shrine had been erected to honor and immortalize him near the same train station where his story had unfolded. Fast forward to 94 years after Hachiko’s story, another pup has made headlines for the same reasons.
On November 19, 2017, a 40-year-old guy named Haris suffered a fatal vehicular accident on the Old Ring Road in Greece. The news was especially shocking to the whole community given how Haris’s brother had also died from a similar accident some years prior. But the whole thing was most heartbreaking for Haris’s canine companion.
It is still unknown as to how Haris’s dog found the exact site of his human’s untimely demise. That is considering the site is at least 7 miles away from Haris’s residence, in Nafpaktos. The dog has been staying on the site for eighteen months.
Many people have already attempted to remove the dog from the roadside where his human had died. But the dog would not budge. Eventually, concerned citizens took it upon themselves to take care of the dog instead.
A shrine had been built on-site in Haris’s honor. A humble shelter was also made for the dearly departed’s dog. Presently, members of the local community take turns feeding the dog and providing him with his needs.
The dog has been dubbed as the Greek Hachiko. He is yet another testament to the sheer length canine devotion would go. It’s a brand of loyalty that transcends death.
