A woman residing in a small village in Seoul, South Korea went to the mountains to enjoy the cold breeze brought by fall. As she walked through the beautiful trail, she spotted a Golden Retriever down a canal. She felt a bit startled at first but decided to approach the dog to try and rescue him.
Terrified, the dog ran and hid inside the sewer pipe. The lady called him and encouraged him to come out but the pup did not oblige. He stayed hidden and refused to show up again.
Concerned for the safety of the dog, the woman came back the following morning with a bowl of food. To her surprise, she saw not one but two Golden Retrievers; a male and a female. She fed them every day for a month in an attempt to gain their trust but she never managed to get too close to them. They ate the food she offered but only when she’s gone.
The kind lady took the time to search for help and eventually, she got in contact with a local rescue group. She told the rescuers what she found and took them onsite. She told them everything they actually need to know about the dogs and helped them lay out a plan to capture the animals.
To ensure the dogs don’t escape, the rescuers enclosed every possible entry and exit way. Once they did, they used food to lure the dogs out of their hiding spot and into a travel crate. While there were moments of chaos, the rescuers were able to safely secure both dogs.
The woman burst into tears as she witnessed the dogs’ rescue. She realized it would be the very last time she’d see them but she was happy to know that they were finally in safe hands.
The dogs went to a foster facility and underwent training and rehabilitation with an animal behaviorist. They both overcame their extreme fear of people, but the female Golden always needed assurance from his brother. He was her source of strength, so they had to be together all the time. Thankfully, a family offered to adopt them both.
From their foster home, the Golden Retrievers continued to their forever home. Together, they started a new life as Mango and Apple. They were lucky to stay together, and even more fortunate because they no longer had to spend a second inside the filthy sewer pipe.
