Eldad from Hope for Paws attempted to rescue an abandoned dog along an interstate for nearly four months. With the assistance of a shelter volunteer named Myrna, repeated attempts were made to capture Rusty the dog, but the stray dog evaded capture each time.
Eldad and Myrna are actually rescuers who work at the renowned animal rescue organization Hope For Paws. Their purpose is to rehome, foster, and save animals in need of assistance.
When Eldad discovered Rusty on the highway, he knew he had to save the unfortunate dog. He enlisted Myrna, and the two spent many days devising a plot to rescue Rusty.
Rusty frequented a fenced-in area, so the rescuers intended to lay the trap there. Myrna piled food in the center of the lot, while Eldad erected a net to conceal the entrance. Once the trap was prepared, Eldad and Myrna hid in their vehicle and awaited the arrival of Rusty.
The rescuers waited almost thirty minutes before Rusty entered the parking lot. When Eldad was certain that the dog was enjoying the meal, he tightened the net by pulling a rope.
Rusty understood he was stuck and attempted to escape by jumping over the fence. After a few moments, Eldad entered the parking lot carrying a choke chain. Eldad successfully seized Rusty in a single fast motion.
Eldad and Myrna had difficulty ensuring that Rusty kept calm while attempting to remove the cage from their vehicle. Fortunately, two passing men saw them and provided assistance. They only needed a few minutes to get Rusty into the cage and into the car, courtesy of the strangers.
When the successful rescuers arrived at the shelter, Myrna bathed Rusty. A veterinarian then thoroughly examined Rusty.
After confirming that Rusty was in good health, a shelter volunteer fed and hydrated him. Before being relocated to his foster home, Rusty spent one week in the shelter, where he transformed into a kinder and friendlier dog.
