One dog got all the support no one ever thought would have.
A family from Woodhaven ends 2019 with a piece of good news that was shared on social media: Their golden retriever, Red, was retrieved back home after he got lost for nine days.
Owner Wade Stevenson, a welding engineer, posted around 2 p.m. Tuesday with the photo of Red saying, “We have him.” His post at Bring Red Homegroup and it was shared more than 1,200 times in the first hour and drew almost 600 comments.
WXYZ has this follow-up on a drama that created wide attention and donations of $3,400 for searches using drones and thermal imaging technology:
It was December 22, Sunday, when Red got thrown out from the family car in a rollover accident. Wade, his wife Ruth Stevenson, and their 4-year-old daughter Hazel only suffered scrapes and bruises. They were traveling north to Mayville in Tuscola County (Southeastern Thumb) for a family visit.
Auburn Hills police and animal control staff members assisted the immediate search.
Michael James of Ferndale, who owns a dog shelter, discovered that the 65-pound pet, Red wasn’t at the place where the accident happened. So he and others prepared cages as live traps and to help catch Red, using food and scents from his family.
Red has no idea how popular he is, one well-wisher said in a post on the Facebook support group. They are very happy he is back with his family while other followers are asking the family to give them updates regarding the health condition of Red.
“Bring Red Home” crowdfunding page set up by Wade Stevenson to help bring in the resources necessary to find him, receives more than $3,400. To cover gas, food, drone services, and other supplies to rescue him.
