When Melody Rezzonico first heard about a dog who needed her help, she didn’t know the extent of the hound’s condition. So when she saw him, she got a little surprised as he looked like a little kangaroo.
Gus was born with a shortened right front leg while the other leg was deformed that it had to get surgically removed. What’s worse was, shortly after that, his previous parents abandoned him in South Dakota.
The moment Melody caught sight of Gus; she knew she had to make him hers. She adopted him and gave her a roof filled with love together with her other dogs. She said that Gus might be a little different from all the pooches she tends to, but he is by far the most active among them.
Melody also bought him a wheelchair, and they went on adventures anyone would be jealous of. They went swimming, mountaineering, and kayaking. Gus keeps up fine; however, he still could not cruise across snows and dunes.
This is what motivated Melody to visit the Bionic Pets, a company that designs and produces prosthetics and orthotics for dogs with disabilities. Thankfully, she picked the best orthotist, and Gus got a brand-new wheelchair that allows for smooth movement letting him go into adventures he never tried before.
Gus did not only get a new family, but he got a new chance at life. That’s all thanks to her supportive mom, Melody!
Melody believes that all hounds deserve a second chance no matter what their disabilities are. We could not agree more, and we hope that this would drive others to do the same. There are a lot more dogs out there waiting for this miracle, and Gus is just one lucky boy!
