Puppies born with defects are often surrendered to shelters and get euthanized. Caring for dogs with special needs can be quite a challenge and it can also be expensive so people don’t want to adopt these dogs because of the added responsibility and cost to take care of them. Some of these poor dogs are even abandoned by their previous owners and leave them to die in the woods.
A tiny and adorable puppy named Freya was found inside a duffel bag that was abandoned in the woods. It was obvious that whoever owned Freya didn’t want her anymore but instead of surrendering her to the shelter, these people decided to let Freya suffer by abandoning her in the woods where she would have zero chance of survival.
Thankfully, Freya was found and was taken to an animal rescue shelter. The animal rescue staff and volunteers noticed that Freya had no front legs. Instead of paws, Freya had nubs on both her front feet, which meant that she would be prone to getting sores on her legs, which could get infected.
Freya was taken to the veterinarian where she met a woman named Emily Weedman. Emily worked at the vet clinic and she happened to come across Freya when her coworker asked her to check out the puppy with no front legs. The vet asked Emily to hold Freya up and that was when Freya let out a big sigh and then quieted down.
That was when Emily knew that she wanted Freya. Emily took Freya home that night and welcomed her into her new forever home. Emily and her family had to get a little creative to let Freya be comfortable in her new forever home. Emily and her family towels, carpets, and carpet runners all over Freya’s area to let her walk comfortably around the house.
Freya’s favorite spot would be the bed since it’s super soft. Freya also got some socks to protect her front legs from sores. Despite Freya’s disability, Freya doesn’t know the difference and she still can run quite fast. Freya loves playing but because of her disability, she can only play for more or less 10 minutes.
Freya is such a sweet dog who loves her human siblings. Emily’s family was so happy when they finally signed the papers to officially adopt Freya. Despite Freya’s condition, she still manages to be so happy and content with life. If it wasn’t for the kindhearted people who found her, Freya would have never had a chance to find a family.
Dogs like Freya deserves a family that loves them and for them to love back. Freya proves that dogs with special needs can be just as happy as normal dogs. Here’s a heartwarming video telling Freya’s story and how she found an amazing forever home with a loving family.
