As the pandemic continues to wreak havoc to the world, cities are still left with no choice but to follow the lockdown imposed. However, did we wonder about the homeless people with no place to stay during the lockdown? Where will these people end up, what will they do during these trying times, and what will happen to their pets?
All we can do is wonder not unless we choose to do something about it. This story is about a kind-hearted vet who wanted to help.
Dr. Kwane Stewart used to be a shelter vet for 12 years. Until such time, the great recession came, and he observed that people started leaving their dogs in shelters because they cannot take care of them anymore.
This fact alone prompted Dr. Stewart to realize that the underprivileged with pets might just be suffering more. He knew that his community needed him.
Thus, he decided to do something. He wanted to give free medical assistance to homeless people with pets who cannot afford a veterinarian. He then set up a free clinic outside a soup kitchen and invited every possible homeless man who needs help with their pet.
At times, he would walk around a particular area to check on homeless people and ask if they need medical assistance for their pets. He would approach them gently and ask if they need help.
So far, he has treated 400 pets in total and still counting to this day. Dr. Stewart admitted that there were financial challenges along the way, but it will never be an emotional challenge. Dr. Stewart loves what he is doing, and he treats it as an emotional reward for his well-being.
Dr. Stewart is passionate about what he does. He even brings along his medical kit in his car in case he encounters someone who needs help with their dog.
According to him, there’s nothing more rewarding than receiving a call thanking him for making their pets’ life better than before. He is such a pure soul.
If you want to divulge into what he does, he currently has an Instagram account named The Street Vet, which has 17.5k followers as of the moment. Honestly, this guy deserves more!
