People from all over the country wanted to adopt a stray border collie from Broken Arrow Animal Shelter. But one family went out and beyond in their efforts to adopt the dog that they set up camp outside the shelter to make sure they get to take this dog home.
Dog with a black heart
A stray border collie, who is now named Luna, found herself in Broken Arrow Animal Shelter in Oklahoma. The dog had a distinctive black heart pattern across her chest, making her standout amongst the other dogs in the shelter.
When Broken Arrow Animal Shelter announced on Facebook that the dog was available for adoption, numerous people expressed their interest in giving the dog a fur-ever home. The post was shared 27,000 times, and thousands of families said they wanted to adopt the dog.
However, Broken Arrow has a strict “first come first served” rule when it comes to adoption. It means they would accommodate the first person to arrive at the shelter on the adoption date.
Luna gets adopted
Since the dog’s photo has gone viral on the internet, the determined Pendleton family drove to the animal shelter a day before the dog would be available for adoption. They didn’t want to risk being even a few moments late during adoption day, so they set up camp outside the shelter the day before. They camped overnight for a total of 27 hours, outside Broken Arrow, to make sure they’re the first to adopt the dog with a black heart.
The family was thrilled to welcome the dog into their fold. They named the dog Luna, and they couldn’t wait to give her a good home. Meanwhile, Broken Arrow was delighted to relinquish Luna to her new family. Luna may not know it, but she has touched lots of people, and she truly deserves to have a loving home. And for new her family, camping outside the shelter for 27 hours was all worth it.
