Fox News posted a raw video in Youtube courtesy of the Madrid police department showing a dog named Poncho performing CPR to his attending officer. Poncho is the first police dog trained to do CPR by the Madrid police department.
CPR is an abbreviation of Cardiopulmonary resuscitation. It is a medical procedure for reviving people who have their heart stopped. Restarting the flow of the oxygenated blood to the brain and heart is crucial.
This is to avoid loss of tissue and further brain damage to the victim. Not everyone can do proper CPR, but knowing how to do it is essential, especially in times of need. The Madrid police department took the challenge and started their own training.
They saw the importance of learning proper CPR in case of an emergency. They started training not only their police officers, but they also included their police dogs. This is only in case if the police officer falls victim to such fate.
In the video released by the police department, the police officer and Poncho got in the middle of the training field. The police officer laid on the floor and pretended to be unconscious. Poncho approached the unconscious officer and started the CPR.
He started jumping on his place and used his forelegs to press the officer’s chest. He also checked the police officer’s pulse by placing his head over his neck. He continued to do the same routine a few more times.
He only stopped when the officer stood up and gave him a treat for a job well done. After the demonstration, Poncho received a lot of cheers from the spectators. When the raw video got out, different news channels re-posted it in their account on Youtube. You can watch the video below:
