In Stillwater, Oklahoma, a college student gets the best Christmas surprise ever. The dog she had been caring for at the local shelter arrived on her doorstep as a surprise gift Christmas morning.
Hallee Fuqua, an Oklahoma State University sophomore, said she’d been asking for a dog for Christmas for many years. Her parents convinced her that she needed to wait until she had graduated from Oklahoma State. So Hallee decided to volunteer at the Humane Society of Stillwater so that she could spend time with all the dogs.
Hallee formed a quick bond with one of the dogs named Rambo. Rambo is a two-year-old hound mix, who was brought in to the Humane Society as a stray. Jackie Ross-Guerrero, Director of Stillwater Humane Society, said Rambo would be a difficult dog to place in a permanent home. He was an adult dog, not a puppy. He was large, weighing over 70 lbs., and he looked like a pit bull. But Hallee said he was anything but aggressive.
Hallee started sending photographs and videos of her and Rambo to her parents. That’s when Hallee’s mom, Jessica, had a change of heart. Jessica said she felt like Rambo was the right dog for Hallee, and belonged in their home. Hallee’s parents started working on secretly adopting the Plott hound.
For a couple of weeks, the Fuqua’s kept the adoption a secret from Hallee. When someone came in inquiring about adopting Rambo, Jackie Ross-Guerrero had to turn them away, saying he was already adopted. Hallee was heartbroken. Part of her was happy Rambo was going to a home, but the other part of her mourned the loss of her canine friend.
The video below shows the moment Halle found out her family was the one who adopted Rambo. Wearing reindeer horns, Rambo waits with Hallee’s dad for Hallee to open the front door. She is more than overwhelmed; her wish finally came true. What a great Christmas present!
