Many opinions surround the act of keeping canines tied up or chained. Some people think that dogs enjoy more being in their confined area. Some even assume that it’s one way to prevent them from going astray or running away from their owners.
Various scientific research proved that our beloved canine friends tend to be territorial creatures by nature primarily when they get confined to small spaces or areas.
They will defend their territories by barking or biting, especially when the target gets near enough for him to reach. These happen as the dog becomes lonely, depressed, and aggressive resulting from lack of social interaction.
This heartbreaking story happens to most of our canine friends such as Danny Boy, mainly due to the lack of education of the owners. Special thanks to the Dogs Deserve Better team led by Case Manager Alex who rescued the sick dog from his chains; he’s doing better.
On St. Patrick’s day, Alex found Danny Boy wrapped with a chain tightly on his neck. Upon closer inspection, they found the chain already embedded on his flesh. He also emitted a horrible odor due to the exposed flesh.
After a successful surrender negotiation, they bought him to an emergency vet center where he underwent surgery for two hours. The Doctor removed dead tissues and treated the infections he acquired due to the number of years getting chained.
Danny boy needs a second surgery, but the rescue team hopes that this will no longer get required. He also became neutered and thoroughly assessed while on the facility.
The dog now receives a few different medications to manage the pain and will get removal of the staples in about a couple of weeks. He currently stays with his foster family while he continues to improve health.
He seems to be a little anxious as it’s his first time to be inside a home, but the D.D.B. team from Blue Ridge Virginia roots for him until they find him a forever home.
