Not all heroes wear capes because some wear furs. Just like this extraordinary English golden retriever pup who proved to the world that canines can be heroes, too.
Mark Freeley was walking along Long Island Sound with his golden retriever pup, Storm when his dog noticed something floating in the water.
The curious pup then saw a pitiful deer near them. It was about to get drowned in the water.
Freeley said his dog, Strom, immediately jumped into the water to save the deer. As he witnessed his dog’s heroic act, Mark immediately took his phone to capture the priceless moment.
Storm grabbed the drowning deer in the neck and started swimming towards the shore. As soon as they reach the shoreline, the worried pooch still wouldn’t let go of the deer. He wanted to ensure his rescued friend was now safe from danger.
Freeley then insisted that the Storm should leave the deer alone. But Storm still kept on pulling the deer away from the water.
Mark felt proud of his dog’s actions and gave him a good boy salute.
In an interview with the New York Daily News team, Mark said that Storm may have a reason for doing such a gesture.
Maybe he’s still pulling the deer because he wants to ensure it’s safe already.
Later, Freeley contacted Strong Island Animal Rescue League experts to take care of the little deer.
Storm’s fur parent wanted to ensure the cute fawn would be in good hands. However, the frightened deer jumped back into the water when the Strong Island Animal Rescue League workers arrived.
Instead of Storm, the workers now were the ones who reached out to the pitiful deer.
Mr. Frank Floridia from the rescue league said he had no choice but to save the fawn. He added that the deer would’ve died if he did not jump into the water.
The rescue team took a few more minutes to take the little deer back to safety successfully. As explained by Floridia, ropes were utilized to take the deer back to the land- this is where the deer got its cuts and noticeable bruises.
After a while, Strong Island Animal Rescue League handed over the little deer to Star Foundation. It is an animal rescuer foundation that cares for lost and abandoned species like the rescued creature.
The rescued fawn is now being treated and is expected to recover after a few months. As soon as the doctors say that the deer’s fully recovered, it will be allowed to go home- in the wild.
