Debra Mejeur lost her beloved dog, Lola, a black Labrador mix, three years ago. Together with her husband, Steve Mejeur, they searched for Lola by every means. They joined all the Facebook groups that could lead them to Lola’s location. Three years had passed, yet they found nothing.
Debra did her best to the point that she asked some volunteers to help them, but again, they found nothing. She even spent her weekdays returning to Elk Grove Village, Illinois, where Lola went missing. She traveled 3 hours from Kalamazoo, hoping that Lola could be found. Her hope got thinner and thinner after years of searching.
Not until one day did light start to shed on her dark days. Someone notified her to call Dupage County Animal Control in Illinois and ask for Lola. She immediately grabbed her phone and asked if the kennel had a black Labrador mix named Lola. That’s when the kennel discovered she was the owner they were looking for.
It was December 3, 2020, when the sweetest reunion of the year happened.
At first, Lola needed to recognize Debra fully. She sniffed first and licked her forehead as if trying to identify the woman. Thankfully, Lola remembered her best friend! She started wagging her tail and suddenly became a very excited dog, indicating she remembered Debra, her best friend. Even Debra’s husband, Steve, also remembered it.
If you are wondering how Lola went lost three years ago and who she was with, here’s what happened.
In October 2017, when the couple decided to visit a friend in Illinois, they brought Lola. They put her in their friend’s chain-link backyard. However, when they checked on Lola, she was not there. The couple tried to calm themselves and looked for Lola.
They shouted out loud her name and searched the nearby surroundings, but there was no trace left. Little did they know that Lola was in the woods 10 miles from their friend’s house.
For almost two and a half years, the couple who lived nearby in the woods was the one who fed Lola. It took them so long to catch the dog since she was brilliant. She runs to the woods if she senses someone is about to see her.
Lola was five years old when she went missing. What led Lola to run away that night is still unknown. What they know now is that they are a happy family again.
