There’s a trend of dog owners making cool rooms, playgrounds, and houses for their favorite canine friends. I’ve seen a closet turned into a dog bedroom, a family bed custom-made to fit the owners and their dogs, and even a customized mansion for one owner’s dogs. This little dog just got a cozy spot under his family’s stairwell.
A little bulldog named Hennessy and his family recently moved into a new house. His owners, David Maceo, and his wife, had been living at David’s mom’s house for months before buying their home. While living there, Hennessy had to share a single bedroom with his owners. When they purchased their new home, David wanted to make a special place for his bulldog.
After settling into the new home, David thought an empty cavity might be beneath the staircase. If there was, it could be the perfect place for Hennessy to have his spot. David dug into the wall to investigate, and it kept going from there.
David then spent a month hollowing out the area under the staircase and renovating it for the bulldog. David wanted the dog’s room to fit in naturally with the rest of the house and look like it was always there. David dedicated every Sunday to work on Hennessy’s new room.
After the construction, David added family photos to the walls around the tiny room. David included pictures of David and his wife with Hennessy and some images of their other dog, who passed away.
Once Hennessy’s bed was put in the room, it was ready for unveiling. David put a snack in the room, and Hennessy went in to eat it. He laid down on his bed and was motionless for half an hour. Hennessy loved his new room!
David said his bulldog loves the comfort of being in a protected space under the staircase. Congratulations on your new room, Hennessy!
