One can only imagine the distress and desolation that comes with being rejected by your mother. It can be so overwhelming that it renders one unable to function correctly, even to the point of being unable to eat. However, on the flip side, affection, even if it doesn’t come from your family, exists and can make all the difference.
Lily, a 9-year-old golden retriever, and Bennedict CurlyPatch, aka Benny, a wee lamb, perfectly encapsulate how these sides of the same coin can play out in nature. Benny, the smallest of the triplets born to their mother, was abandoned early on. Sometimes, the animal world requires necessary sacrifices for the greater good, and Benny carries the burden of this sacrifice. All hope seemed lost for poor Benny, as he had stopped eating and become feeble. But then, Lily came to the rescue!
Lily and her siblings Boris and Darcy had grown up in a nurturing home farm and were taught how to socialize with everyone, including animals. This had heightened their inherent good-natured souls, and they had become licensed therapy dogs. When Lily saw the condition of the helpless Benny, she took it upon herself to look after him. As fate would have it, Benny recognized Lily as his mother, and Lily recognized Benny as her own. Now, Lily bathes, feeds, and sleeps with Benny. She does everything with her Benny, just like a mother would do with her still-growing child.
Benny, who had previously been rejected and lonely, has become and continues to be loved and protected. He is eternally grateful to Lily for adopting and welcoming him into the canine family. This heartwarming story of Lily and Benny shows that true love and affection may leave but will eventually come back at the right time.
