Although people today prefer to adopt dogs from animal shelters, many shelter dogs are still finding it hard to find a forever home. Some of these dogs never experience what it’s like to be a part of a family. The unlucky ones are usually euthanized when they don’t get adopted.
At the Converse Animal Shelter in Texas, a Yellow Labrador mix named Arcanine knew nothing but the animal shelter. When he was only a puppy, his owner surrendered him because his family didn’t want the responsibility to take care of him.
Arcanine spent the next decade living behind bars, hoping someone would come in and adopt him. Despite his friendly and playful demeanor, Arcanine can’t seem to find the perfect person to love him enough to adopt him.
Even the staff and volunteers were puzzled as to why no one wanted him. Arcanine is such a lovable dog but people still tend to walk straight past him without giving him any notice. Everyone who worked at the animal shelter felt sorry for him. They knew that they didn’t have a lot of time until Arcanine will become too old that no one would want to adopt him.
Luckily for Arcanine, the moment he had been waiting for finally came. After 10 years of living in the animal shelter, a couple named Joshua McCommons and Filly Rodriguez walked in and noticed Arcanine. The moment Joshua and Filly saw Arcanine, they knew that he was the perfect pup for them.
For the first time in his entire life, Arcanine will finally know what it’s like to be a part of a real family. The owner of Lucy’s Doggy Daycare and Spa, Max Golman, was so touched by Arcanine’s story that he gave him free spa treatments for the rest of his life.
Arcanine definitely deserves a great life. Here’s a video featuring Arcanine’s freedom ride and a glimpse of his new life with his new forever family.
