Davos is a Bernese Mountain Dog adopted by an avid golfer named Al Cooper from Golden Valley, Minnesota. At that time, Al was battling cancer and wanted a constant companion to cheer him up. He found the perfect buddy in Davos.
The dog regularly gave him comfort and never failed to put a smile on his owner’s face. He is also well-loved by the other family members. This is why they always let their pet tag along wherever they go, including their frequent golfing trips.
Lost balls
Davos loves the outdoors, and a golf course allows him to roam wide open areas. While exploring around, he would find lost golf balls and collect them. The active dog would then take them back to Al and his wife. The couple would then take the balls home and clean them up for their beloved pet.
Every time they went to play golf, they would go home with at least a dozen balls. Davos had a real knack for sniffing them out, even in heavily-wooded areas. Soon, he had more than 4,000 golf balls at home. Al and his wife didn’t know what to do with them.
Until one day, Davos gave them inspiration.
Donation
While watching TV, a commercial about neglected animals came on. Al noticed that Davos got emotional while watching. He told his wife about this, and she came up with a brilliant idea. She told her husband they could sell the golf balls and donate the proceeds to their local shelter.
Al agreed, and they sold the balls to golfers. They raised more than a thousand dollars. They scheduled their donation on National Animal Shelter Week, where anonymous donors pledged to double or triple any amounts given.
Davos was, of course, there when they handed the check to the shelter. The staff was very grateful as it would be a big help in their day-to-day operations.
