A homeless man did not hesitate to risk his life by rushing into a burning animal shelter to save the trapped dogs and cats. Keith Walker, the heroic man, had sprung into action when the kitchen of the Atlanta-based shelter called W-Underdogs Shelter had caught fire.
Here is Keith’s story of heroism.
Keith’s unconditional bravery
Speaking to a major news outlet, the 53-year-old man said that he was nervous and really scared to go to the burning facility with all the smoke. But he still did, saying he believed that God had put him there to save the animals.
Keith was able to save all the animals who were inside the shelter, which included dogs and cats. He said that if one could love a dog, they could love anyone in the world. Apparently, he had a dog who he treated as his best friend. His own dog somehow inspired him to save the animals from the burning shelter.
The shelter thanked Keith on their Instagram account, even calling him a guardian angel — because that’s what he truly is! Furthermore, W-Underdogs also thanked the volunteers who had come to their immediate aid.
The shelter is trying to recover
Luckily, W-Underdogs was able to move to new premises the week after the disaster. This meant that the dogs and cats were trying to settle in already at the new facility.
Gracie Hamlin, the founder of W-Underdogs, again called Keith a guardian angel. She even said that the firefighters did not want to handle the dogs. While the fire department was seeking the help of the animal control department, it was Keith who braved the fire to pull out the cats and dogs.
Keith and Gracie already know each other, as Keith’s dog was sometimes allowed to sleep at the shelter. When Keith was to pick up his dog from the shelter, that was when he saw the fire — a moment that brought out the best in him.
